Gaelic Girls Batter Brummies!

John Moores Ladies’ third league match proved to be a very entertaining affair, showing that us girls can be just as good as our male counterparts when we put our minds to it!

Birmingham Ladies started the stronger of the two teams and scored the first point. However JMU quickly got rid of their collective hangover (a ‘no drinks ban’ was NOT enforced on this weekend away!) to show those Brummies that we’re a force to be reckoned with. Most of JMU’s points came from midfield, with Susan O’Donnell, Shelia Tracey, and Genevieve Campbell displaying their talents for all to see.

The defence was solid with Breda Travers (the captain) and Raza McGinn (the Terminator!) holding Birmingham back.... illegally in some instances!  Luckily for JMU, the opposition failed to take advantage of the free kicks they were awarded and only managed to score a single point in the second half. The final score shows how JMU dominated the game overall.

The ladies’ team would like to commiserate the men’s team (some of us did it ‘personally’ in Shenanigans on Sunday night!), who were knocked out of the British Championship in the semi-final.

The ladies championship will be held in Manchester on the 11/12 March. Hopefully us girls can go one better than the lads and bring home the cup (and have another one of those nights in Shenanigans, eh Niall?!).

Final score: Birmingham 0-2, JMU 3-9
