JMU Ladies Success

British Universities Gaelic Games

1999-2000

The team reached the semi-finals in the 1999-2000 season, losing out to St. Mary's Strawberry Hill. Beating Brunel West London in the quarter finals set the team up for a meeting with the current holders but the girls could not match the strength and stamina of the St. Mary's team. The JMU team came away delighted to have got that far and avowed to go one better next year!

2000-01

Last season (2000-01), after serious doubts as to whether the team would attend the Championships due to a late change of venue (from Manchester to Teeside!) and a lack of available transportation, the girls battled their way through the snowy conditions of the league stages and quarter-finals to book themselves a place in the semis the following day. A good night's sleep provided the girls with the extra stamina to come through the semi-final and into the final against St Mary's Strawberry Hill, the current Champions. Although the JMU team gave it their all, the St. Mary's girls proved to strong in the final stages of the game. The JMU team came away with a thoroughly deserved Runners-Up place and will be back this year to avenge the defeat in the final. So watch out Strawberry Hill!!

2001-02

This season, the team have been particularly successful in the league, currently holding onto the top spot with one game to play.  At the British Championships 2002, the girls made it to the semi-finals after a gruelling first day, but were beaten by a less exhausted Liverpool Hope team.  Combining with girls selected from the Hope team to form the North-West region, several JMU girls won the Railway Cup competition and were selected for the AllStars squad to represent the British Universities.

In addition, this year the girls have started a 'Roll of Honours Board'  for the club which is designed to document the team's success, and the successes of individual players through the introduction of 3 player awards.  Click here to find out who won what this season!
